When it comes to home decor, decorative pillows are your best friend. Whether you are decorating a new home or simply want to refresh your current look, pillows are one of the easiest and least expensive ways to elevate your space. They are great for living or family rooms, as well as bedrooms. In addition to adding style, throw pillows provide back support on couches and chairs, and extra comfort when curling up in bed to read a book or watch a movie.
Throw pillows are available in many different sizes and shapes. The most common shapes are square and a rectangular shape often referred to as a lumbar pillow. Square accent pillows are typically between 20x20 inches and 16x16 inches, but smaller and larger sizes are available. Round pillows are also available and offer a wonderful contrast in shape when paired with rectangular pillows. Having multiple different sized throw pillows on your sofa or bed is a great way to add dimension. Stacking small square pillows in front of larger pillows and throwing in a lumbar style or round pillow creates a pleasing variation in size and shape. When it comes to accent pillows, it’s all about the texture. First you’ll want to consider the texture of your existing furniture and any rugs or curtains in a given room. The texture of your throw pillows should match the general feeling or style of your existing home decor, while adding something new that both stands out and brings the room together. Today, pillows are available in a huge variety of textures, like velvet and faux fur. Some materials have a flat design, while others are embroidered, woven, or have 3 dimensional additions like pom poms or tassels. Try mixing and matching pillows with a lot of texture with ones that have a simple flat cover made of cotton or a synthetic blend. The colors and actual design of your throw pillows is also important. On a couch or bed, mix solid colored pillows with pillows that have a pattern or woven design for a balanced, finished look. When styling an armchair, it is usually best to pair a patterned pillow with a solid colored chair, or vise versa. In some cases, pairing two or more patterns can create an eye catching and aesthetically pleasing look, just be careful not to choose designs that clash. Think about the color scheme of the room before selecting your throw pillows. If you have colorful rugs, curtains, or furniture, pick out colors that will match or complement your existing color pallet. If your room is filled with neutrals or a monochromatic color scheme, you may want your throw pillows to add a pop of color, or a variation in pattern and texture. Swapping out your decorative pillows throughout the year is a super easy way to seasonally decorate, or make your home festive during the holidays. Pillows are inexpensive and easy to store which is why they are our favorite way to refresh a space. Simply adding a couple fun pillows can brighten up a whole room, especially during the darker months. Our collection of throw pillows includes a wide variety of textures, colors, patterns, and shapes, to ensure we have something for everyone.
